ABOUT A BLOG
A blog is a website on the internet where a person reflects over his/her life or current issues. You can say that a blog is similar to a public diary since everyone can read it.
The texts in a blog can be about anything but mostly it is about a certain theme. It can be about music, literature, fashion, travels, sport and politics etc.
The blog is interactive which means that people can make comments about what you write in your blog. The owner of the blog can also respond and write back. In your blog you can also create links to other bloggers or to articles that you feel other people ought to read.
Many large businesses and organizations use blogs to convey their message. Large newspapers also have blogs where journalists have the opportunity to write more freely than what they normally do in the newspaper.
Today blogs are very important for public debate.
Typical for the genre
TITLE
A blog always has a title and it mostly says something about the content of your blog but you can also choose to use your name as a title. The title is mostly placed at the top of the blog.

BLOG ENTRY
In a blog you publicize your entries so you regularly, maybe every day, write in your blog about current issues or events in your life.
In the first page of the blog you can see your latest entries and links to your older entries. Your last entry will always be at the top.
PRESENTATION
In the left or right margin you can find a link to the blogger’s profile where you can present yourself. Some people present themselves more briefly and others in more detail.
TIME AND DATE
In most blogs the date and time for when the entry was written is visible.
COMMENTS
At the end of every entry there is a possibility for others to make comments.
PICTURES AND VIDEOS
Besides text you can publish pictures and videos in your blog. However you are not allowed to publish “upphovsrättsskyddat material” that is pictures, text and videos that someone else owns.
LINKS
In your blog you can give suggestions of other bloggers or websites that might be of interest to the readers. You can create links to different websites in your blog.
LANGUAGE FORMAL OR EVERYDAY LANGUAGE
The language in a blog can vary a lot depending on the purpose of the blog. It can be very formal, very free and also almost spoken English.
HOW TO ADRESS THE READERS
Most bloggers usually writes in first person (I). That makes it more personal and the readers might feel that they know the blogger.
THINK OF WHAT YOU ARE WRITING
In Sweden we have freedom of speech which means that you are entitled to express your thoughts and opinions in your blog. There are also laws that you need to follow. You can’t insult people or write racist texts. You can’t express yourself threatening, offensive or encourage people to commit crimes.
Since there are special rules for using pictures on your blog I am going to give you the addresses to some web sites where you can find free images:

Travel Blog year 8 part III
Think about the following things when you write your blog:
- Use strategies like, synonyms, different ways of expressing yourself, questions……
- You can use a “blog language” just make sure that you are grammatically correct.
- Compare what you know about Sweden and everyday life in Sweden with what you find out about your English speaking country. Put the content in relation to your own interests, experiences and way of life. Discuss differences and similarities.
Travel blog project II
Hi!
When you have registered your blog account you need to think of a strategy in order to be as efficient as possible.
Decide which country you are going to work with.
Read the instructions once again. Make sure that you understand what to do and how extensive (omfattande) the assignment is.
Look at the five different topics you have to choose between and pick one to start with.
Gather as much information as possible. Look at a variety of sources on the internet and choose wisely. You have to include the sources in your blog.
Your first blog should be published on Friday 20/1.
Write your text in a way that the reader actually thinks you are there. Don’t just make a list of facts. You can make up parts of the text and maybe you have to but the facts, must be the real deal. You have to make comparisons with the facts that you find and your knowledge of living in Sweden, living conditions in Sweden and/or other experiences you have.
Travel Blog project
Dear students!
You are about to make a trip to an English speaking country. Your task is to find facts about everyday life, interests and activities, traditions, cultural events, living conditions and values. You will compare these facts with your own experiences from your life and living in Sweden.
How are you going to do this?
Every week you are going to publicise your blog about a certain topic. The deadline is every Friday. Before you publicise your blog you should have read the response from your peers on your last blog and made comments if necessary (except from the first blog).
You have access to the Internet and that is your main source. You can, if you want to, use the Library. You are allowed to work at home and maybe you have to in order to be ready to publicise your blog at the end of the week. There are a number of topics that you have to work with….
In your blog you are going to describe five different topics. Below you will find some more information about the blog entries you are going to write. You can put them in any order you like.
· Holiday. While you are on your trip you have the opportunity to take part in a typical national holiday. Describe how this holiday is celebrated. What’s the historical background? Special food? Any special activities?
· Family Life. You have the chance to visit an ordinary family in the country. What is it like to live in your country? Work? School? Living? Lifestyle? Describe the family you meet.
· Cultural Event. You have some extra time to spend on an exciting cultural event. For instance it could be a sport event or a concert with a national artist. Where does this event take place? What is it like?
· Being a Tourist. Of course you use some of your time on your vacation to do some sightseeing. Choose one of the attractions you visit and blog about this sight. Describe your experience and also give facts about the attraction. Why is this an interesting place to visit?
· Free topic. Write about something that you are interested in. It could be a special place/city, national music, national literature, an important person… It’s your choice!
You are going to create your own Blog account on blogg.se. Your account will be available to me so you have to send me your account. Everyone will have three peers who will give response/comments as a help to improve your writing skills. If you want response from me you can send your blog entry to me before you publicise it.
We will keep you up to date here……
